The place name *parampaṉ-kōkūr* occurs in the inscription at Ammankoyilpatti (No. *84*, 4th century A.D.). *kōkūr* may be construed as *kōku*+*ūr*, literally 'the village of *kō(ṅ)ku*'. Cf. *kōṅku* 'common caung, ironwood tree of Malabar'.
