Many of the names of 494 poets listed here carry prefixed attributes giving their place names and particulars of professions, e.g., Maturai Aṟuvai Vāṇikaṉ Iḷavēṭṭaṉār, indicating that the poet hailed from Madurai and was a cloth merchant by profession.
