**1.6 *paṇa-aṉ*** (n.) Cf. *paṇavaṉ* 'servant' (*TL*) from *paṇ* 'service, work, employment' (D. 3884). The expression may be interpreted in this context as 'officer, high functionary' as he served under the king. The PNG suffix **-aṉ** is added in free form.
