The term *nicītikai* occurs twice in this Corpus (Nos. ***115*** & ***116***) and also in a later Tamil inscription at Tirunatharkunru referring to the *aṇacaṉam* 'fasting unto death' by a Jaina ascetic (*SII*. XVII: No. 261, ca. 10th cent. A.D.). The variant *niśīdika* occurs in a Tamil inscription (in Tamil and Grantha scripts) at Vijayamaṅgalam commemorating the death by fasting of Puḷiappai, probably the younger sister of Cāmuṇḍarāja who erected the famous monolith of Gomaṭēśvara at Sravanabelagola (*ARE* 597/1905).
