Professor V. G. Childe’s *New Light on the Most Ancient East* (1934), still remains the best general account of the prehistoric Orient, but can now be supplemented by A. L. Perkins, *Comparative Archaeology of Early Mesopotamia* (Oriental Institute of Chicago, 1949), and D. McCown, *The Comparative Stratigraphy of Early Iran* (ibid., 1942), with a full bibliography of excavations and sites discovered since 1934 except for Tell Hassuna, published by Seton Lloyd and Fuad Safar in *Journ. Near Eastern Studies*, IV (1945) 255. In this connexion the Sialk report is of outstanding importance - R. Ghirshman, *Fouilles de Sialk* (two vols., 1938-1939).
