When we turn to the decorative motifs distinctive of the Nal style the main feature noticeable is a tendency to use multiple parallel lines to form not only panels but such patterns as diagonal steps or stepped chevrons, equal-armed crosses, diamonds, circles, and numerous variations of overall curved motifs in multiple wavy patterns. These geometric motifs are most distinctive of the Nal style, combined in the Nundara region with the use of red, and at Nal itself and analogous sites with red, blue, green and yellow paint used in flat blocks of colour, but not in lines (Fig. 5).
