We are now in a position to summarize our knowledge of the Amri-Nal Culture and to review it in its relationship with other Indian prehistoric cultures and those of the Bronze Age Orient at large. The small settlements, with houses built of stone or mud brick, compare, as we shall see, with those of Kulli or the Zhob Valley people: the lack of burnt bricks suggests that any contact with the Harappā Culture was not of so fundamental a character as to introduce this way of building. Of lay-out and house-plans we know little, and we can only say that here, as with the other Baluchistan cultures, there is a generalized resemblance to the village or small urban communities known throughout the Ancient East in the prehistoric periods, which, even though not contemporary in date with those of India, represent the background from which they emerged.
