Between the most southerly site in Bahawalpur and the nearest site farther south, in Khairpur State, is an interval of 150 miles - but this lacuna may be due to incomplete field-work over the intervening area, and settlement may be virtually continuous. However, from this point southwards and south-westwards nearly to Karachi are clustered settlements of which the chief is the city of Mohenjo-daro, near the northern limit of the area of concentration, suggesting a population owing allegiance to the ruling powers in that city.
