Pleistocene cultures and chronology in the Orient as well as elsewhere are discussed by Professor F. E. Zeuner in *Dating the Past* (1946), and the Indian material is conveniently summarized by V. D. Krishnaswami in *Ancient India*, no. 3 (1947), 11-57. The most important special studies are H. H. De Terra and T. T. Paterson, *Studies on the Ice Age in India and Associated Human Cultures* (Carnegie Institution of Washington, 1939), and H. L. Movius, *Early Man and Pleistocene Stratigraphy in Southern and Eastern Asia* (Papers of the Peabody Museum, Harvard, 1944). Accessible summaries of the main points in this latter book and of the current views on *Pithecanthropus* are given by Professor W. E. Le Gros Clark in *Antiquity*, XIX (1945), 1-5; *ibid.*, XX (1946), 9-12. For a general summary of our knowledge of fossil men in Asia and elsewhere, see the same writer’s *History of the Primates* (1949).
