A few records in Indic languages and scripts of about the first or second century A.D., evidently written by Indian traders, have been found in Egypt, including a Prakrit inscription in southern Brāhmī on a potsherd from Quseir (*JAOS* 111, 731–6). There are also a few fragments of Old Tamil inscriptions from the same site (ibid.).
