Many distinguished religious leaders and poets flourished at this time. Appar, already mentioned, and Tirugñāna Sambandar, two of the 63 Śaiva devotees, composed the Tēvāram collection of Śaiva hymns. One of these devotees Śiruṭṭoṇḍa Nāyanār assisted in the destruction of Bādāmi, and he was visited by Tirugñāna Sambandar—a fact which fixes the date of these authors. Śiruṭṭoṇḍa Nāyanār appears to have been one of Narasimha Pallava's generals.
