[The Pallava king Paramēśvara-Pōtavarman alias Īśvara-Potarāja came to the throne in A.D. 670. He and his predecessors Narasimha Varman, whose reign ended in 668, and Mahēndravarman II (668-70), had been at war, as above stated, with the Western Cāḷukya Vikramāditya I, another of whose names was ‘Raṇarasika’. Western Cāḷukya records claim for Vikramāditya that (in or after A.D. 670) he defeated ‘Īśvara-Pōtarāja’, and took Kāñchi, the Pallava capital, ‘but did not destroy it.’]
