A.D. 173. [Probable date of accession of Gajabāhu I, King of Ceylon, determined by its distance in time from the date of Buddha's death which is taken, as in modern computation to have occurred in 483 B.C. It is important to fix this date because Gajabāhu is known to have been a contemporary of the Chēra King Śen-guṭṭuvan who invited him to visit him at his capital city Vañji. (*Mahāwaṃśa ch. xxxv*.)]
