⁴ The antiquity of the use of this word is proved by Patañjali’s *Mahābhāṣya* on the first *vārttika* (*siddhe śabd-ārtha-sambandhe*) of Kātyāyana on Pāṇini’s *Aṣṭādhyāyī*. Patañjali says that Kātyāyana employs the word *siddha* at the very outset for the auspicious completion of his scientific treatise. See Chhabra, *loc. cit.*
