In records like the Sobharampur plate³ of Dāmodara-deva, the emblems are engraved on a projection at the top of the plate. But there is no legend. In late medieval documents like the copper-plate grants of the rulers of Chamba, the seal was engraved by the side of the writing in the shape of a rosette or some such ornamental design, the space in the centre being occupied by the legend containing the king's name.⁴
