² The earliest mention of the week-day by name is found in the Eran inscription of the time of Budhagupta, dated 484 A.D. (*Select Inscriptions*, p. 326). But the word *vāra* probably referring to a week-day seems to be used in the Andhau inscriptions of 130 A.D. (ibid., pp. 167 ff.).
