The similar case of Govindapāla would suggest that the Lakṣmaṇasena-saṃvat was originally counted from the accession of king Lakṣmaṇasena about 1179 A.D. and not from any other date such as that of the end of his reign about 1206 A.D. or of his defeat at the hands of the Muhammadans a few years earlier. The initiation and prevalence of the era in Bihar again suggest the expansion of the suzerainty of the Senas of Bengal over that region.
