(1) The *Milindapañha*¹ on the date of Milinda usually identified with the Indo-Greek king Menander—*parinibbāṇato paṃca-vassa-sate atikkamte*, ‘at a time when 500 years elapsed from the death of the Buddha,’ i.e. in the sixth century (between 501 and 600 years) after the Buddha’s Parinirvāṇa.
