(3) Paramārtha’s *Life of Vasubandhu* (6th century A.D.)³ on the date of the Sāṅkhya philosophers Vṛṣagaṇa (or Vārṣagaṇya) and Vindhyavāsa, a rival of Vasubandhu’s teacher Buddhamitra and a contemporary of king Vikramāditya of Ayodhyā—‘in the 900 years’ (i.e. between the years 901 and 1000) after the Buddha’s Parinirvāṇa.
