This era is called the Kollam-āṇḍu (literally ‘the western year or reckoning’) in Tamil and the Kolamba⁴-saṃvat in Sanskrit. It is sometimes referred to as the reckoning which started from the origin of Kollam (called Kolamba-pattana in Sanskrit) which is the real name of the Anglicised Quilon in the Travancore region of Kerala.
