Sometimes the king was indicated by expressions like *śrīhasta*, *śrīpāda*, *śrīcaraṇa*, etc.⁴ The predecessor of the ruling monarch was often mentioned as ‘the big king’, and we have expressions like *bṛhan-nṛpati-caraṇāḥ*, *periya-devar* (Tamil), *Bada-Narasimha* (Oḍiyā), *Pedda-Narasimha* (Telugu), etc.⁵
