Some of the early Prakrit inscriptions such as the Hathigumpha inscription⁴ of Khāravela (close of the 1st century B.C.) and the Nasik cave inscription⁵ of the 19th regnal year of Puḷumāvi (middle of the 2nd century A.D.) are written in the *kāvya* style. The Piprawa vase inscription⁶ of the 3rd century B.C. appears to contain a Prakrit stanza.
