Considering the wide extent of this civilization in space, we cannot accept any single arbitrary date for the whole area. It is not improbable that the Harappan might have survived in the peripheral zones of Baluchistan, W. Rajputana for a longer time than in its epi-centre. For example, we have such an evidence in its southern periphery. With the excavations at Lothal, Rangpur, Somnath, Amra and Lakhabawal, we have very good reason for believing that Harappan survived in a pure form for a longer time in Kathiawad, and continued in a decayed State with new elements right upto about 500 B.C. We shall discuss this in greater detail, while dealing with Gujarat. (See Chapter VII)
