*Sūtra* IV.2.65 states that the students of the new *sūtra* works were also named after the number of chapters in the texts studied by them, such as *Ashṭakāḥ*, *Daśakāḥ*, *Trikāḥ*. Thus all the *Pāṇinīyas* to whichever Vedic school they belonged would be called *Ashṭakāḥ*.
