Attention may also be drawn to Pāṇini's mention of the name Māshaśarāvin whose descendants were called *Māshaśarāvayaḥ* according to the suffix added to words of the *Bāhvādi* group (IV.1.96). In the *Chāndravṛitti*, Māshaśarāvin is one word, and so also in Hemachandra and Vardhamāna (*Māshaśarāviṇa risheḥ*, verse 206), but in the *Kāśikā* it is wrongly split up. The Drāhyāyaṇa and Lāṭyāyana Śrauta-Sūtras cite an old authority saying that the Māshaśarāvins were organized as a Vedic school having their own Brāhmaṇa work (B. K. Ghosh, *Frag. of Lost Brāhmaṇas*, p. 112).
