It is a pleasant duty to record my deep gratefulness to my Professor, Dr. Radha Kumud Mookerji, who prescribed for me this subject and whose constant help has greatly contributed towards the completion and publication of this work. In token thereof I respectfully dedicate this book to him. May this work be a small recompense to him for all the trouble he has taken on my behalf during the last twenty-five years. My sincere thanks are also due to Shri Sampurnananda Ji, Shri Chandra Bhan Ji Gupta and Acharya Narendra Deva Ji who kindly helped me in securing from the State Government of Uttar Pradesh through the Lucknow University a generous subvention in aid of the publication.
