(ii) *Sowing* (*vāpa*). After the soil was prepared by ploughing, it was fit to be sown (*vāpya*, III.1.126). In some cases ploughing was done in a field with seed already scattered in it, *e.g.* *bījākaroti* (V.4.58), which the *Kāśikā* explains as *saha bījena vilekhanaṁ karoti*.
