(2) The *Gaṅgamāla Jātaka* (*Jāt.* III. p. 448), while mentioning the sub-divisions of a *kārshāpaṇa*, speaks of a four-*māshaka* piece as being lower in value than a *pāda*, which is possible only if the *pāda* coin be equal to five *māshakas*, being one quarter of a *kārshāpaṇa* of twenty *māshakas*.
