(4) ONE-EIGHTH *KĀRSHĀPAṆA*—Kauṭilya refers to it as *ashṭabhāga*, an actual coin related to the *paṇa* (*Arth.* II. 12, p. 84). Manu calls it *pādārdha* (VIII. 404). The *Ashṭādhyāyī* implies *dvi-māsha* in *sūtra* V. 1. 34; the *Arthaśāstra* makes it a unit of weight in the *Suvarṇa* series (p. 103). The *Jātakas* are silent about one-eighth *kahāpaṇa*.
