46. Vēlaṅguḍi.—There are two Vēlaṅguḍis, one of them about four miles from Kānāḍukāttān. That is not the Vēlaṅguḍi referred to in the Ceylonese campaign. On the road between Tiruppattūr and Pon-Amarāvati, of which a part over ten to twelve miles is traceable now, there is this village Vēlaṅguḍi eight miles or so, south of Pon-Amarāvati. The taking of Vēlaṅguḍi naturally led on to the capture of Pon-Amarāvati as well in the campaign. The road actually branches off a little less than a mile from Tiruppattūr on the Tiruppattūr-Tirumeyyam road, and one has to get to Kaṇḍavarāyampaṭṭi by a pathway. Then begins the road passing through Vēlaṅguḍi-Pūvālankurichi and Pon-Amarāvati, and shows even some of the old culverts.
