In Madura he received orders from head-quarters to set about the celebration of the festival of the coronation of Vīra Pāṇḍya. The General Laṅkāpura made ready for the coronation and ‘appointed Māḷava Chakkavatti (Māḷava Chakravarti) and Māḷavarāyar and Talaiyūr Nāḍāḷvār, men of the Lambakanna race to perform the duties of the office of Lambakanna.¹ He then caused a proclamation to issue inviting all the chieftains of the Pāṇḍya kingdom to assemble for this ceremony. ‘He caused the prince to be anointed duly in the temple which stood at the northern gate of the palace of the former kings, and which aforetime had been honoured with the sound of the drums of victory. The famous general then caused the prince to go round the city in state.’
