The Results of the Chola Intervention.—The Chola intervention in this Pāṇḍya war restored the Pāṇḍyas to some little of their power. At the same time it contributed largely to the weakening of the Chola hold upon the Pāṇḍya country. Soon after the war however, the Chola throne was occupied by the last great Chola Kulottunga III who, as crown prince, had already rendered distinguished service in the war against the Ceylonese in favour of Kulaśēkhara Pāṇḍya, and after his death, in favour of his son Vikrama Pāṇḍya. He succeeded to the throne in A.D. 1178 and his rule lasted till A.D. 1216.
