Unlike most of his predecessors, Kṛṣṇa II could ascend and retain the throne without a war of succession. The exact date of his accession is still not possible to determine, but it cannot be much later than March 878 A.D., which is the last known date of his father, since the latter was by that time more than 70. We may, therefore, tentatively place his accession in c. 880 A.D.¹
