The number of the feudatories representing the conquered royal houses was further enlarged by the creation of new ones as a reward for military service. Most of these used to be originally appointed only as governors with the feudatory privilege of the Pañchamahāśabdas, but the principle of hereditary transmission of office used to convert them soon into full-fledged feudatories.
