The use of the Canarese script and language by the members of the family of Dantidurga is not, however, inconsistent with the theory, here advanced for the first time, that Dantidurga's ancestors were direct or collateral descendants of Nannarāja of Elichpur. It is shown already how a number of Raṭhi families were long domiciled in Karṇāṭak even before the 3rd century A.D. Under the Cālukyas of Badāmi, a Canarese-speaking dynasty was founded in southern Gujrat, and another in the Telgu-speaking Andhra country. The predecessors of Dantidurga may similarly have carved a domain in Berar away from their home in Karṇāṭak.
