A third possible view in this connection is to regard Karka I of the Antroli-Chharoli record as a younger brother of Indra Pṛhakarāja of the main line, and to make his descendants Dhruva, Govinda and Karka II contemporary cousins of Govinda, Karka and Indra of the main line. This view presents no chronological difficulties like those in the first two theories; Karka II, according to this theory, becomes an elder contemporary of Dantidurga and he may quite possibly have rendered him valuable assistance in his military plans, in return for which Dantidurga may have appointed him his deputy in southern Gujrat. It must, however, be admitted that the assumption that Karka I was a younger brother of Indra I is based upon mere conjecture. It has to be confessed that the precise relation of the main line with the Rāṣṭrakūṭas of the Antroli-Chharoli record still remains to be discovered. That the two houses were related in some way is fairly certain; the ill-behaved relative, whom Kṛṣṇa I ousted soon after his accession, was very probably either Karka II or his successor.
