In figure-work the influence of the Benares school is less distinct in Central India. It is present to some extent only in the *Eka-mukha-liṅgas* discovered by the writer at Khoh and Bhumra, in the Nagod State of Central India. In the case of the face on the *liṅga* at Khoh, the eye-brows are only slightly elevated.¹ But in that at Bhumra the tangential stroke is more pronounced.² They are altogether wanting in the rather primitive figure of Viṣṇu in cave No. II at Udaygiri, near Bhilsa in the dominions of the Mahārājā Scindia.
