I have thus shown that Albîrûnî's initial date for the Gupta era stands all these tests. It may even be said that it stands them better than 167 A.D. and 190 A.D. proposed by General Cunningham and Sir E. Clive Bayley respectively. But I am loath to decide such questions simply on astronomical grounds, for there are several very confusing elements involved, and a modern astronomer cannot know them all and make allowance for them.
