Thus the completed year 157 must, in the case before us, have come to be mistaken by the writer of the inscription for the *current* year, and he thought 156 to be the past year and thus gave that instead of 157. Now 157 Gupta + 242 + 78 = 477 A D., which is *Mahâ-vaiśâkha*, according to the tables.∗
