Akbar, perturbed by the absence of satisfactory news from Bengal, set out from Fathpur Sīkrī on 22 July, 1576. He had marched but one short stage when Sayyid ‘Abdullah Khān arrived in his camp and threw down Dāūd’s head before him. He returned to Fathpur Sīkrī and ordered public rejoicings for the victory.
