v4.c20.208
The confirmation of Ajīt Singh in the government of Ajmer had been due to weakness rather than to clemency, and his tenure of Ajmer, sanctified by the shrines of Mu‘īn-ud-dīn Chishtī and several lesser saints, was repugnant to Muslim sentiment. Haidar Qulī Khān's prompt obedience to the order recalling him from Gujarāt and his reckless audacity led to his appointment as governor of Ajmer, from which he expelled the raja's officers.
