Jānojī Bhonsle had been recalled to Nāgpur by the news of his mother’s death and ‘Alī Vardī seized the opportunity. He marched to Cuttack, reoccupied the town, captured the citadel, put to death the officers who had held it for Raghūjī, and expelled the Marāthās.
