Al Kazwíni (A.D. 1236) quoting Mis-ar bin Muhalhil (A.D. 942) describes Saimúr as one of the cities of Hind near the confines of Sind,¹⁴ whose people born of Turkish and Indian parents are very beautiful. It was a flourishing trade centre with a mixed population of Jews, Fireworshippers, Christians, and Musalmáns¹ The merchandise of the Turks (probably of the Indo-Afghán frontier) was conveyed thither and the best of aloes were exported and called Saimúr after its name. The temple of Saimúr was on an eminence with idols of turquoise and baijadak or ruby. In the city were many mosques churches synagogues and fire-temples.
