It is probable that Chashtana was a Saka prince, who, for some reasons not known, entered into an alliance with Gautamiputra against the Kshaharātas. Perhaps he was either a petty prince of Sind or Rājputāna who invaded the Kshaharāta empire or a vassal of the Kshaharātas who revolted against his suzerain.
