The Vêlûrpâlaiyam plates (South Indian Inscriptions, Vol. II., Part V, give us a brief history of the Pallavas of Kâñchî; after having spoken, in verse 9, of Nandivarman, these plates say: "Then from the king named Simhavarman...was born the victorious Simhavishṇu". According to this passage it would appear that Simhavarman, the father of Simhavishṇu was the successor but not the son of Nandivarman, because we have here "then" and not "from him" and this supposition has been completely confirmed by the Vâyalûr inscription which gives the following series:
(29) Simhavarman,
(30) Vishṇugôpa,
(31) Simhavarman,
(32) Simhavishṇu,
(33) Mahêndravarman (I).
