This section may be closed with a legend of a different sort. On the bare sheet rock of the Southern Konkan where scarcely a blade of grass will grow are to be found, in the rains, masses of a very beautiful little purple flower (Utricularia albocærulea) called by the common people ‘Sitáchi Asre’ Sita’s Tears. The story is that after Rám had recovered Sita from her captivity in Ceylon he reproached her with inconstancy. On his leaving her, or threatening to leave her, she appealed to his mercy with tears, which, falling on the bare rock, flowered forth then and for all time in this lovely form.
