¹ This result is obtained by determining the saṁvatsara by the mean-sign system (see page 288 above, note 1), which is the proper one for this period, and according to which it lasted from the 25th October, A.D. 601, to the 21st October, A.D. 602. This is the earliest epigraphical instance, as yet obtained, of the use of the sixty-year cycle according to the mean-sign system.
