⁴ The Haidarâbâd grant says that he acquired it "by defeating hostile kings who had applied themselves (or a hostile king who had applied himself) to the contest of a hundred battles." But the subsequent records state, more specifically (e.g., Jour. Bo. Br. R. As. Soc. Vol. XVI. p. 226), that he acquired it "by defeating the glorious Harshavardhana, the warlike lord of all the region of the north." For the connection of the title with Harshavardhana, see Ind. Ant.
