¹ Page 350 above.—Dr. Bhandarkar has suggested (Early History of the Dekhan, 1884, p. 47) that he was probably Gôvinda I. of the Râshtrakûta line of Mâlkhêd. But, even apart from the fact that there is nothing to shew that Gôvinda I. enjoyed any regal power, the date of A. D. 608, to which we must refer the Gôvinda who is mentioned in the Aihole inscription, seems altogether too early for this identification.
