¹ This title occurs here in an inscription at Baḷagâmve; P. S. and O.-C. Inscrs. No. 167, line 9, Mysore Inscriptions, p. 108. It appears to occur elsewhere, slightly transposed, as Kannaḍa-Heri-Lâla-samdhivigrahin, in an inscription of A. D. 1072 at Niḍunêgali in the Kôd tâluka, Dhârwâr District (Cârn.-Dêsa Inscrs. Vol. II, p. 143; the transcript has Kamnaḍa-Hari-Lâla, &c., including two mistakes). The meaning of heri or héri, which we have previously met with in the smaller title of Heri-samdhivigrahin, is not apparent (see page 443 above, and note 3). Kannaḍa, of course, is the same as Karṇâṭa, 'the Kanarese country.' Lâla is a Tadbhâva corruption of Lâṭa; and, that it is used here in that way and in the sense of 'the Lâṭa country,' seems to be made clear by the fact that we meet with the title Heri-Lâla-Karṇâṭa-samdhivigrahin in an inscription of A. D. 1144-45 at Hângal (page 458 below).
